FAQ

NoustaView questions, answered.

NoustaView is free and runs in your browser, with nothing to install and no account needed. Your study is not uploaded unless you choose Share Case.

Is NoustaView free?

Yes. The viewer, MPR, measurements, Exam Mode and image export are free, permanently, for every student, teacher and reviewer. Share Case hosting will be funded by optional Supporter and Pro subscriptions.

Does it upload my scan?

No. A study you open is decoded and rendered entirely inside this browser tab, and no server is in the imaging path. Nothing is uploaded or retained unless you choose Share Case (Supporter and Pro), which uploads a de-identified copy that you review and confirm first, to a link you control; close the tab and the opened study is gone.

Do I need an account or an install?

No. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install, and you do not need an account to open and view a study. Once a study is open you can keep working offline while the tab stays open.

Does it work on a Mac, Chromebook, iPad or phone?

It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install on any of them. Use a Chromium browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera): Firefox and Safari open the viewer, but folder loading may not work there; on iPhone and iPad every browser uses Safari's engine, so expect the same. Desktop gets the complete toolset; on a phone or tablet the toolbar narrows to what works with a thumb, and case sharing works fully on both.

Which files can I open?

You can open a single file, a folder or a .zip archive from your drive, either by choosing it or by dragging and dropping it onto the viewer. Archives load directly.

Is it a medical device? Can I use it for diagnosis?

No. NoustaView is a review and teaching tool. It is not a certified medical device and is not intended for primary diagnostic use, and it does not replace a calibrated diagnostic workstation.

Can I use it for an exam or a class?

Yes. Exam/Class Mode loads your exam or teaching cases once, then you can safely unplug the source drive; export, printing and sharing stay locked for the session, and the mode cannot be switched off.

How do I share a case, and how long do shared links last?

Share Case (Supporter and Pro) sends a de-identified copy, which you review and confirm first, to a link you control; set a password or an expiry, or revoke it early, all from your dashboard. Whoever opens it needs no account and no install. A share can hold up to 5 studies. Supporter allows 3 share slots a week (a slot is 500 MB, so 1.5 GB in total), with links valid for up to 3 days. Pro allows 20 share slots a week, up to 3 GB per share, with links valid for up to 7 days.

Is the shared copy de-identified?

Yes, Share Case uploads a de-identified copy after a preview that you must confirm. It flags series likely to contain burned-in text, and the Redact text panel detects text on your device, uploading nothing, and lets you hide it. Detection can miss text, so check the preview yourself; it does not guarantee full de-identification.

Can I export images? Is DICOM export de-identified?

Image export (PNG and JPEG) is free. DICOM export is a Supporter feature: it keeps the original file, replaces the patient name, and removes patient IDs, study, series and acquisition dates and times, and institution and staff names. UIDs and some other dates are kept. Private vendor tags, the contents of nested sequences and burned-in text are not scrubbed. With the watermark on, DICOM export is a rendered image.

What do Supporter and Pro cost?

Supporter is $2 a month or $15 a year. Pro is $7 a month or $50 a year. The viewer, MPR, measurements, Exam Mode and image export stay free.
